Every week, Vogue will be spotlighting tastemakers across industries to hear how they’ve been approaching self-care during the coronavirus pandemic. We asked actress and co-founder of ONDA Beauty Naomi Watts how she’s been staying sane at home, from reading to cooking.

1. I’m taking it day by day.

I’m a planner and not being able to think too far forward gives me anxiety. With all the uncertainty it’s best to just think small… “how do I get through this day?” Things like cooking, exercise, meditation are all helpful. Also talking to friends, some that I don’t get to see that often. We are collectively sharing this experience and mostly everyone is having to deal with some level of frustration, sadness, or loneliness, and therefore we all need to find ways to connect. I love how we all just pick up the phone and FaceTime now. It used to be days of planning a phone call, now it’s just so nice to have some eye contact at any time of the day or night! And 9 times out of 10 there’s no small talk. We go deep!

2. I’m cooking.

I have found certain activities help with anxiety. I love cooking and have even been experimenting, mind you, with plenty of failures…last night I made a risotto in the pressure cooker for the first time. It wasn’t too bad—I will definitely be revisiting that one because it was so quick and easy, and things that require the least amount of focus are just better choices these days!

3. I’m exercising.

We all know that exercise is a fantastic way to shift a mood. I love the rush of endorphins after a physical challenge. I’ve been live streaming The Class by Taryn Toomey. which is great for body and mind. She really has you face all your demons head on. It’s very cathartic.

4. I’m listening to audiobooks and podcasts.

I’ve just started listening to Tara Brach’s audio book called Radical Acceptance which I’m loving. She also has guided meditations on Spotify. I love listening to audiobooks or podcasts while getting through the laundry pile. Or in the bath. Sam Harris, Tim Ferris, Brene Brown, are all great. I’ve always been a multitasker so checking things (two at a time) off the list is a good day as far as I’m concerned.

5. I’m reading.

I try to read a bit before I go to bed. Right now, I’m reading Love Warrior by Glendynn Doyle. Reading before I sleep helps me switch off a bit.

6. I’m taking care of my skin.

I keep De Mamiel Sleep Series oil by my bedside table. I’m loving the ‘Settle’ oil right now as it helps calm your mind before you sleep. I also keep Jao Goe oil beside my bed as it’s super hydrating and amazing to use on your heels and elbows. And that’s about the size of a quarantine day for me!
